In the January 2017 school holidays the Australian Botanic Garden in Mt Annan again welcomes Fizzics Education to the Bowden Center to provide a range of exciting, engaging and hands-on school holiday programs!
 

  • Half and full day holiday program workshops and activities appropriate for all Sydney school aged children!
  • Please bring food, a drink, a hat and appropriate clothing for science activities.
 

If children want to stay for the full day simply book your child into 2 x half day workshops and we'll supervise them during the break! 

The Bowden Centre is located just off Caley Drive and is a 2 minute walk from the Visitor Centre and restaurant in the Australian Botanic Garden, Mt Annan. Park in the main car park and we'll have some signs to point you in the right direction!

Lego Robotics 1 - beginners

Learn how to program our brand new Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots to do your bidding. In this exciting program learn how to teach a robot to do what you wish using motors, sensors and more! 

Participants must be able to read and use mathematics sufficiently at a minimum Year 3 level to get the most out of this workshop. 
 
  • Please bring a snack, a drink and a hat with you on the day.
  • Pair this with the afternoon Intermediate session for a full day of Robotics fun! 

Age: 8–14 years 
Cost $40 inc. GST
Supervision over lunch will be provided for those staying for Lego Robotics 2 in the afternoon.

Lego Robotics 2- intermediate

Extend your knowledge of programming with more challenges using our brand new Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots. This course is presented as a series of challenges to encourage children to develop more advanced programming skills and be creative in their pursuits.
 
Please enroll in Lego Robotics 1 before you attend Lego Robotics 2 if you have not used EV3 lego robots before. If your child already has an EV3 robot and is familiar with the programming platform you are welcome to join without doing Lego robotics 1.

Extreme Engineering
- Full day science workshop

Get your build on! The kids will have a blast in this holiday workshop where they put their imagination to the test constructing all sorts of contraptions. Engineers take scientific concepts and use them to make things bigger and better. We’ll be exploring the world of engineering through a series of activities designed to make you creatively think around design challenges.

We’ll investigate how civil engineers use different shapes to design and build structures like towers and bridges to give them as much strength as possible... with a little competition to boot! Then we’ll look at how mechanical engineers use of simple machines such as levers, pulleys and inclined planes to create complex machines using Meccano and other common materials, plus another building challenge to return a spacecraft back to the ground safely!

So much fun!

Create a Buzz electricity workshop

How does electricity work? Why does static electricity zap me? What makes a motor turn?
Learn all about types of circuits, resistors, diodes, motors as we put them all together to makes interesting circuits that do really cool things. We’ll also investigate electrical and magnetic fields and how your body can conduct electricity – a truly “hair-raising” experience!

Exploring Science holiday workshop

Awesome science fun this upcoming holidays!
Get your science-loving kids out of the house to find out all about light, sound, movement, energy changes, air pressure and more using hands-on science toys and child-friendly experiments. Watch our Fizzics Education science educator sit on a chair of nails, join in on shooting fog rings across the room and other surprising science sights. So much fun, the kids absolutely love it!

This program can be paired with the afternoon Gross science program to make a full day of workshops! Lunch break will be from 12pm-1pm and fully supervised by Fizzics Education.

Garden Detectives: Forensics Fun!

Crime scene investigation comes to Mt Annan!
This forensic science workshop will intrigue budding super sleuths who enjoy their science mixed with a bit of drama. Get dressed in your forensic suit and follow the clues using real science:

- Fingerprinting and blood typing
- Facial reconstruction via computer and real models.
- Hair and fibre analysis.
- Fluorescence of oils, plant identification and DNA comparisons
- Latent image detection and shoe impression casting!
- Evidence collection and more!
