Science Holiday Program FAQ's
How many children attend these workshops?
So that the holiday workshop can be run effectively, we limit the number of children to 25 as a maximum. This allows the workshop itself to be manageable, as well as allowing children great access to the equipment. How many staff attend the workshop? At all times we provide 2 staff members at the venue. The attending staff are either science teachers or science communicators, each with strong experience in delivering science workshops to a broad range of ages and abilities. What is the average age of the children attending? Generally the average age sits between 7 and 12 years olds, however older children can be accommodated. I have a child younger than 7 years, can he/she come along too? Whilst we would love them to attend, some of the activities are not suitable for younger children. Having children too young for the workshop can impact upon the experience of the other attending children. We are looking at running a specialist holiday science workshop for young children for future holidays however. Watch this space! The holiday program venue is not near our house... are there any other closer venues available? As we run science programs throughout the Sydney basin we have tried to cover the district as best we can whilst fitting with our other show commitments. At least one venue is within 30 to 45 minutes driving from any part of Sydney, allowing for the quiet holiday traffic periods. If a venue is not close, most parents choose to make it a day trip like any other holiday activity (in the past people have travelled from the Central Coast to Sydney to attend these sessions). If you still cannot make one of the venues, perhaps you could organise some friends to have us attend your home or other venue for an after school science treat, or alternatively suggest a venue that would be viable for a later date in the holidays. A chance to get creative! What do we bring on the day? A labelled water bottle and hat, as well as any prescription medication. Prescription medication will be locked away from the other children. Do I need to have the kids wear old clothes? Please do! Whilst most of the holiday workshops are not that messy, there are some can get quite messy (eg, Creepy wounds and Slime lab). For safety please wear appropriate footwear (no thongs please!). When do we meet at the venue? Please arrive at the holiday program no later than 15 minutes before the start time. This allows time for the kids to be checked in and for the workshop to commence on-time. Parking can be limited at some of the community centres, check the address on here. When do I pick up the kids? Please arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled pick up time. You'll then be able to see the children using the equipment! My child will be attending both the morning and afternoon workshops... can you look after them in-between the two programs? Definitely, we put on a pizza lunch for those children attending the full day. Additionally there are other science activities and games organised for the lunchtime period. My child has allergies, what happens in this case? On booking, please inform the office of which allergies your child suffers from as well as the appropriate response in case of emergency. If your child is attending the pizza lunch and cannot eat pizza we suggest you provide your own packed lunch. At no time do we use nuts or products containing nuts in our workshops. When do we pay for the program? For the safety of our staff members on the day, we ask that the payment for the holiday program be arranged prior to the workshop. This secures your place in the program, otherwise we could not guarantee your child a place if you arrive on the day without booking. Refunds are not provided for cancellations less than 1 week prior to the day. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
