A hands on workshop designed to demonstrate practical applications of mathematics in science.

Discover how pulleys and levers make work easier. Determine wind speed.
How high is that building?
Can you work out the number of animals in the bushland?
Bend and bounce light using prisms and mirrors...+ many others!

Students perform investigations in density, buoyancy, ecological sampling, the weather and reflected light angles.
Working Mathematically: Stage 3
This performance is authorised through the
Performances for Schools program, managed by the NSW Department of Education & Training.
Hands on Activities

Clinometre Determine the height of your building using trigonometry
Density Detective Identical volumes can have very different masses.
Eulers Disc Investigate variance of data using this spinning disc.
Fizzy Fountains Chemical reaction rates change with reactant concentrations.
Geometric Bubble Films Identify each of the 3D shapes made from bubbles.
Koala Capture Determine the population of koalas using random samples.
Measure that dino! Use trigonometry and shadows to determine the height of a dinosaur!
Paperclip ‘magic’ Explore topology, the science of shapes. How does it work?
Powerful Pulleys What is the relationship between distance and weight with the pulleys?
Rays of Light Measure light beam angles using Hodson Light Boxes™ and protractors.
See Saw Vary the masses and distance from the fulcrum. Graph and explain...
