Status

Vulnerable. Found in Tasmania only.

Habitat

Dry sclerophyll forests and coastal woodlands but can range into outskirts of urban areas.
Description

Largest carnivorous marsupial in the world. Nocturnal, being most active at twilight (i.e. crepuscular).
Diet consists of small mammals, reptiles, fish, insects and amphibians. Solitary hunters.
Opportunistic and will feed on carcasses. Will generally eat up to 15% of its body weight per day.
Breeds from March to April.
Devil facial tumour disease is affecting wild populations and may affect the future conservation status.
