Scientific Name
Hardenbergia violacea
Family: Fabaceae
Flowers
Purple pea flowers with pale yellow centres. Arranged in axillary racemes.
Habitat
Also known as False Sarsparilla, this attractive climber is used by the Australian domestic nursery trade. Common in woodland, even seen on exposed earth and roadside curbs.
The tough leaves can be narrow-oblong to almost heart shaped. There are prominent veins visible over the leaf surface. Apparently the leaves can be boiled to make a slightly sweet tea - just be aware for any pontential allergic reactions.
