Port Jackson Shark
Description

Distinct markings running across the eyes and from the snout down to the first dorsal spine, then running along the side of the body. Raised ridges above the eyes.

Scientific Name

Heterodontus portusjacksoni

Habitat

Coastal and marine waters from sourthern QLD to Tasmania and west to central coast of Western Australian.

Most found in depths less than 100 metres on rocky environments on or near the bottom i.e. a benthic animnal.

Diet consists of sea urchins, molluscs, crustaceans and fish. Spiral egg case often found washed up on beaches.

Considered harmless to humans, although a bite will be painful. Like all animals in the wild, leave them alone!
