Mother of Millions

Scientific Name

Bryophyllum spp.

Flowers

Tubular orange flowers.

Habitat

A native of Madagascar, this introduced plant is used as a garden ornamental in Sydney, where it's ability to reproduce in large numbers coupled with it's ability to tolerate drought has made it a serious bushland pest.

A succulent plant up to 1 metre in height.
Each leaf produces many plantlets which detach to grow as new plants

Known to be poisonous to cattle on ingestion

Eradication

Control can include registered herbicides such as Brushoff, Grazon or Starane used as a diluted foliar spray. Follow all directions on the label.

Mechanical removal often requires some removal of the topsoil as well to remove the small plantlets.
