In the October 2018 school holidays the Australian Botanic Garden in Mt Annan again welcomes Fizzics Education to the Bowden Center to provide a range of exciting, engaging and hands-on school holiday programs!

  • Half and full day holiday program workshops and activities appropriate for all Sydney school aged children!
  • Please bring food, a drink, a hat and appropriate clothing for science activities.
  • No peanuts allowed on site

How to get to the Bowden Centre

The Bowden Centre is located just off Caley Drive and is a 2 minute walk from the Visitor Centre and restaurant in the Australian Botanic Garden, Mt Annan. Park in the main car park and we'll have some signs to point you in the right direction!

What to bring for our holiday programs
  If children want to stay for the full day simply book your child into 2 x half day workshops and we'll supervise them during the break! 

NB: No peanuts allowed on-site. 
A Parent or Guardian is required to sign the child in upon arrival and then sign them out when picking them up after the workshop. Refunds available if the event is cancelled or rescheduled.

Lego Robotics 1 - beginners

Learn how to program Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots to do your bidding. In this exciting program learn how to teach a robot to do what you wish using motors, sensors and more! 

Participants must be able to read and use mathematics sufficiently at a minimum Year 3 level to get the most out of this workshop. 
  • Please bring a snack, a drink and a hat with you on the day.
  • Pair this with the afternoon Intermediate session for a full day of Robotics fun! 
  • Requirements, FAQ's & Allergy Policy

Ages 8 to 14 years
Cost $45 inc. GST
Supervision over lunch will be provided for those staying for Lego Robotics 2 in the afternoon.

Lego Robotics 2- intermediate

Extend your knowledge of programming with more challenges using our brand new Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots. This course is presented as a series of challenges to encourage children to develop more advanced programming skills and be creative in their pursuits.
Please enroll in Lego Robotics 1 before you attend Lego Robotics 2 if you have not used EV3 lego robots before. If your child already has an EV3 robot and is familiar with the programming platform you are welcome to join without doing Lego robotics 1.
Participants must be able to read and use mathematics sufficiently at a minimum Year 3 level to get the most out of this workshop.

Exploring Science

Get your science-loving kids out of the house these holidays to find out all about light, sound, movement, energy changes, air pressure and more using hands-on science toys and child-friendly experiments. Our science educator will demonstrate how to sit on a chair of nails and shoot fog rings across the room... and the kids will get to make gooey slime, giant bubbles & more!

Natural Disasters

Doomsday Science & survival holiday workshop! Explore the science of survival as we look at disasters from a human and natural perspective, and investigate some of the skills that you might need to survive one! In this workshop, there will be experiments covering volcanoes, earthquakes, meteorites, firestorms and more! You'll also learn tricks of communication and codes for times of crisis.

Crazy Contraptions!

Learn about simple machines like levers, pulleys and wheels and then take these ideas, plus physics (think gravity, friction and how things move) to create crazy contraptions. Use lots of complex steps like marbles rolling, dominoes falling and whatever other wacky moves you can think of to perform a simple task, like ringing a bell. Let the fun begin and your imagination run wild!
