About Helena Nicholson

Helena Nicholson profile picture

With over 20 years teaching experience, Helena’s teaching roles have morphed with the times, as she demonstrates a lifelong love of learning and the ability to be flexible and adaptable, yet purposeful. With a background in Theatre and leading Science teaching and learning and sustainability, she now drives STEM learning, underpinned by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

She teaches K-6 in Digital Technology and guides her staff in STE(A)M integration as they teach a design thinking approach across the school. Her STEM inspiration was kicked off at the STEMX Academy in Canberra in 2017 and on-ground, the deeply embedded school sustainability culture links seamlessly to SDG’s.

“Teaching is all about relationships…building strong relationship with students, colleagues, in a professional learning network and the local community is essential.” Helena believes in the power of students to drive their own learning and that learning experiences must have a purpose, a meaningful context and be for an authentic audience. She learns with the students and loves to ignite their curiosity and inspire them.
