Designed for Years 3 to 6 to investigate the scientific method in detail, this full day science workshop introduces and expands a variety of core scientific principles:

  • forming a hypothesis
  • identifying variables
  • fair testing
  • experimental design and reporting
  • critical thinking and problem solving

These 5 elements are essential for students to engage in science literacy and form the basis of the entire K - 6 Science & Technology Syllabus. On completing this science workshop your students will be well-equipped to plan and undertake their own first-hand investigations as well as evaluate their results correctly, regardless of what unit of work they are studying!

A student:
  • investigates their questions and predictions by analysing collected data, suggesting explanations for their findings, and communicating and reflecting on the processes undertaken (ST2-4WS).
  • investigates by posing questions, including testable questions, making predictions and gathering data to draw evidence-based conclusions and develop explanations (ST3-4WS).

Science Workshop Experiments


The workshop is built around 3 modules:

  1. Introduction to the scientific method (hands-on stations based on force, energy and chemistry)
  2. The role of a report; guided activities on chemistry
  3. Engineering challenge; time to apply what you know!

Fair testing of variables and clearly communicating results are emphasised throughout each module. 
A variety of scientific theories and laws are also presented during the day as a consequence of the activities:

  • Newton's laws of motion
  • Conservation of energy
  • Gravity
  • Factors determining chemical reaction rates and more...

Students will understand that controlling variables, fair testing and making relevant predictions underpin all science experiments and that knowing how to apply these core scientific principles will be great preparation for entering a high science laboratory.

This highly rewarding day will excite students and invigorate your science curriculum!


  • Appropriate for Years 3 to 6 with a maximum of 30 students per day (9:00am until 3:00pm)
  • Access to 3 electrical power sockets and 8 tables
  • Chairs are not required
  • An outside area for mess
  • Set up time 45 minutes and pack up time 45 minutes
  • Interactive whiteboards are handy but not essential


  • $1250 inc. GST per full day workshop
