In the October 2018 school holidays, Sydney Olympic Park again welcomes Fizzics Education to the education center to provide a range of exciting, engaging and hands-on school holiday programs as part of the Kids in the Park program!
 

  • Half and full day holiday program workshops and activities appropriate for all Sydney school-aged children.
  • Please bring food, a drink, a hat and appropriate clothing for science activities.

What to bring to our holiday programs
  If children stay for the full day simply book your child into 2 x half day workshops and we'll take care of them during the break! These holiday program workshop sold out quickly - get in early to ensure that you don't miss out!  Refunds available if the event is cancelled or rescheduled.

NB: No peanuts allowed on-site.

Location of Sydney Olympic Park Education Center

The Education Centre is located within Bicentennial Park in Sydney Olympic Park. To get there, enter the park via the Australia Avenue gates and follow the signs around to the p10f carpark (it is almost at the park exit). Once you reach p10f, you'll see signs to the Education Centre! If you're arriving by train, Concord West train station is closer to the venue than Olympic Park train station.

Crazy Contraptions!

Learn about simple machines like levers, pulleys and wheels and then take these ideas, plus physics (think gravity, friction and how things move) to create crazy contraptions. Use lots of complex steps like marbles rolling, dominoes falling and whatever other wacky moves you can think of to perform a simple task, like ringing a bell. Let the fun begin and your imagination run wild!

Slimy, bouncy or glow in the dark! Investigate the many uses of different materials in our world and learn about solids, liquids and gases as we burn things, freeze things and even smash things. Slime, Orbeez and oh so much more. Get ready to learn the messy and fun way!

Lego Robotics 1

Learn how to program our Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots to do your bidding! In this exciting program learn how to teach a robot to do what you wish using motors, sensors and more. This workshop is ideal for those children interested in computing and want to learn more about what Lego can do.

Lego Robotics 2

Extend your knowledge of programming with more challenges using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots. This course is presented as a series of challenges to encourage children to develop more advanced programming skills and be creative in their pursuits.

If your child does own a EV3 robot and is familiar with the programming platform they are most welcome to join if they haven't been in Lego Robotics 1.

Exploring Science

Get your science-loving kids out of the house these holidays to find out all about light, sound, movement, energy changes, air pressure and more using hands-on science toys and child-friendly experiments. Our science educator will demonstrate how to sit on a chair of nails and shoot fog rings across the room... and the kids will get to make gooey slime, giant bubbles & more!

Natural Disasters

Doomsday Science & survival holiday workshop! Explore the science of survival as we look at disasters from a human and natural perspective, and investigate some of the skills that you might need to survive one! In this workshop, there will be experiments covering volcanoes, earthquakes, meteorites, firestorms and more! You'll also learn tricks of communication and codes for times of crisis.
