Medieval Engineering: Catapult Launch

Build, test, and take home your own wooden catapult!

Vacation care fun where children design, build, and take home their own catapults!

Explore the mechanical advantage of the medieval world. Our presenters guide children through the physics of tension and structural geometry, using triangles to handle the forces imposed on their machines.

What we explore:

  • Catapult vs. Trebuchet mechanics.
  • Hands-on construction with timber kits.
  • Tension, potential energy, and structural strength.
  • Optional targets and paper castles for testing!

✨ Reliability You Can Trust

Coordinating holiday programs for Libraries, OOSH, BASC, and Councils requires more than just “fun”, it requires hassle-free logistics and proven engagement.

Led by a Churchill Fellow, our team has delivered massive programs around Australia & beyond since 2004 for over 4 million students.

🛡️ Safety & Flexibility

This workshop typically uses hot glue guns (recommended for ages 7+). Full safety equipment and instructions are always provided.

✨ Low-Heat Option:

Libraries and vacation centres can opt for us to use high-strength tape instead of glue guns upon request.

Content

The session is designed to capture their imagination as they construct medieval siege devices out of common materials. The children will work together to construct their creations and will have a chance to use them to knock down paper castles or shoot for a target on completion. We will bring table covers and work mats for each hands-on station. The children can take home their catapult at the end of the session.

⚠️ Safety & Logistics Notice

On booking, please be advised that hot glue guns are used throughout this workshop. Appropriate safety precautions and instructions are provided. All care is taken; however, we do not take responsibility for injuries caused by misuse of our equipment.
