In this episode, we chat with Allyson Mitchell who is the Outreach Programs Manager for Penn Museum, also known as the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. From interactive virtual learning to science & cultural engagement programs onsite and beyond, there’s a lot happening near the heart of Philadelphia. Hosted by Ben Newsome from Fizzics Education More Information About the FizzicsEd Podcast About Allyson Mitchell Throughout her professional and scholastic careers, Allyson Mitchell has focused on how technology can act as a bridge to connect formal and informal educational spaces and programs. Prior to joining the Penn Museum, Mitchell served as the Curator of Education at the Delaware History Museum, where she created a new Distance Learning studio and supporting programs. During her time in Delaware, Allyson acted as the State Coordinator for the National History Day program for two consecutive years. Mitchell has held a variety of positions within the Education Department at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where she primarily worked to assist K-12 educators in integrating museum collections and technology into their classroom curriculum. She graduated with high honours from Tyler School of Art at Temple University with a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and minor Italian. She earned a Master’s degree in Museum Education at the University of the Arts and recently received her certification in Global Education Leadership. Mitchell has presented at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Association of Museum Conference and the 2017 American Association of Museum Expo and Conference to discuss the implications of distance learning in a museum setting. In Summer 2019, Mitchell served as Guest Editor for the Journal of Museum Education, 44:3- Virtual Visits: Museums Beaming in Live to which she also contributed an article focusing on her work at the Penn Museum.
