How it works Students design and reflect on small “career experiments” using a specialised four-card suit system. Who delivers it Specialist Fizzics Education presenters—bringing the resources and the framework to your classroom. Time required 90-minute workshop (integrated into career education or pastoral care time) Evidence base Grounded in Career Adaptability Theory and Self-Determination Theory. Designing Your Career As students navigate high school, Job Lab empowers them to move from passive observation to active experimentation. Rather than asking students to “pick a career,” we ask them to test their interests in the real world. Guided Reflection Students use a structured process to make sense of career experiments and integrate them into their decision-making. The Four-Card System Students combine cards representing How to explore Personal strengths Human capabilities Work contexts to build a practical, real-world task. Clear Self-Knowledge Over repeated cycles, patterns emerge, helping students identify where they truly fit without the high-stakes pressure of permanent decisions. Why Job Lab? Job Lab does not ask students to commit to a career; it asks them to experiment. This distinction is vital for students who feel anxious or disengaged when career planning feels like a high-stakes decision. By using a “game-ified” card system, we lower the barrier to entry and increase engagement with complex future-of-work concepts. Requirements Appropriate for grades 7 to 12 for 50 to 100 students plus parents per workshop Student to be accompanied by a parent or carer.
